Despite that support, the measure remains far from complete. vote of approval means the Bucyrus Platting Committee must take up the matter to determine whether the full city council should vote to send the idea to the board of zoning appeals. The largest hurdle preventing Bucyrus businesses from either providing outdoor dining or setting up outdoor sales areas is a federal law the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that regulates the width and slope of a sidewalks. John Rostash, the code-enforcement officer, said every sidewalk must provide at least a 5-foot-wide area for pedestrians, 3 feet of which much have less than a 2-percent grade.

Rostash said the sidewalks in downtown Bucyrus are 13 feet wide, but most of them are sloped by more than two degrees. Since those sidewalks were built before the ADA was updated, the city is exempt from adjusting them. Any new construction atop those sidewalks would require the project to find a way to provide aflatter area for pedestrians. Temporary structures, Rostash said, would not require the slope of the sidewalks to be corrected. The majority of those present for the meeting spoke in favor of allowing the downtown businesses to use the walkways, and questioned Rostash on various aspects of the rule.

They learned that ADA laws are broken rather frequently throughout the city. the First Friday we had was illegal, is that Councilman Mark Makeever asked city Law Director Rob Ratliff. is Ratliff responded. Ohio's death row will be moved from the Chillicothe Correctional Institution to the Toledo Correctional Institution in the "near future," said JoEllen Smith, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

The move is not expected to affect the number of staff at CCI, but it will lead to an unknown increase in staff in Toledo, Smith added.
