observatory of Uie comet which almost definitely established it as one of a brief period According to present data It must have made a semicircle of the sun In two or three hours or at the rate of four hundred miles a Second Tho fact Uiat the son's atmosphere offers no check to its progress proves it ineombnstlble oulike meloorlllea To say that the oomet travels four hundred miles in a second only imperfectly conveys an idea of its motion It would travel all around the world at the equator in a minute or travel from California to New York in the time it takes a healthy person to breathe once Eobbery at the Fair Ou Thursday Night of the Fair last week or early Friday Morning some one entered the domestic hall building by crawling through a hole at the South weal corner aud taking a case of cutlery mostly pocket knives exhibited by Blair Eq Circumstances which it is unnecessary to detail had caused suspicion first to rest upon Jacob Couts who was arrested on Sunday From what he said McClellan Lane Newton Couts son of Jacob and Fred Wingert Jr were afterwards arrested charged with the robbery the boys confessed their crime and many of the knives were recovered At a preliminary hear-tag they pled guilty amljwere each held to bail iu the sum of $300 and this security not being given they were com-mited to prison to await the action of the grand jury The charge against Jacob Couts tne father was changed from larcency to receiving and disposing of goods knowing them to have been stolen On this charge a preliminary hearing was had before Hon Allen Campbell and a plea of not guilty entered After In-vestigatiod he was bound over in the snm of 50 Many citizens are surprised and sorry to learn of this suspicion resting against Jacob Couts the father and it is a widely entertained and earnest hope that he will be able to clear himself from tho accusation Make your preparations now to get out every vote next Tuesday Railroad Items a Frayer A Son recieved 13 by asking them to do so but many of them with yourselves believe that on the liquor question the democratic leaders are wrong many honestly believe that the position now held by the democracy will logically lead to free liquor and no Sunday Republicans can well and consistently ask such honest democrats to scratch the head of their ticket and vote for Townsend voting the balance of their own ticket An earnest effort made in tills direction would be attended with results creditable to the virtue and intelligence of many honest democrats The County Agricultural Pair It is possible that the funds received from the proceeds of the Agricultural Fair will not be enough to pay the premiums after settling all the expenses and that the premiums will have to be cut down ten or fifteen cents on the dollar Two causes have united to produce this first the weather was had and that reduced the receipta at least $500 second there is so much dishonesty practiced by some exhibitors that tbe premiums they obtain are little better than square robbery If now the entries and tbe award made on them are carefully scrutinized by tbe directors and those entries that were made contrary to the rules are thrown out there will doubtless remain enough funds to pay every honest exhibitor who has obtained a premium and there will be a handsome surplus in the treasury See the Bargains!
